KI 0672 How to access and copy files from the WIM-backup
First you need to install a program that can read the WIM backup image. For this we'll use 7-zip.
1. Open the Software Center from the Windows Start-menu, and search for 7zip.
2. Click on the 7-Zip icon, and then click on the Install button.
The installation will start av few moments later.
After a successful installation. You can close the Software Center.
3. Open the Windows File Explorer, and type the path where the backup is located in the address field. You should have gotten this path from BRITA, probably in the support ticket regarding the re-installation of your PC.
4. You should now see at least one large WIM-file.
If the computer was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, you should see a file called D-disk and a Windows WIM-file.
Your personal documents were stored on the D-disk, more on that below.
Right click on the WIM backup image, and then select 7-Zip -> Open archive.
5. In order to view and extract your files that were stored in the My Documents folder, you need to go to the following directory in 7-zip:
csc\v2.0.6\namespace\
• Then double click on the folder which has the largest size. (it might be, eir, gol, voss etc).
• Double click the next folder that shows up.
• Find your user name (you might want to sort the folders based on size) and double click on it.
• You should now see all the files that were stored in your Documents folder on the PC. In most cases these files were synchronized to the server, and should be available in the O:-drive. If not you can copy them over to your PC.
To copy a folder or file over, right click the file/folder, and select Copy To...
Browse to the destination, by clicking the button with the three dots.
Select where you want the files to be copied over, or create a new directory. Then click OK.
How long the process takes, is dependent on how many files you are copying, the size, and the speed of your internet connection.
Please be patient, this might take a while.
