KI 1673 Why must my Mac be managed by UiB?

All Macs purchased from UiB are owned by UiB and thus a UiB asset. All UiB Macs automatically receive UiB's standard setup and configurtation, managed by the UiB IT division. This configuration should not be removed.
We do this so that we can help you as a user when you contact the IT service desk BRITA, and to enable you to use software with UiB licences. The IT division also maintains security settings on your machine. You yourself are an administrator on your own Mac and can do what you want, even operations that require administrator access.

Regardless of the mode of operation, all equipment must satisfy the rules and regulations set down in UiB's "Styringssystem for informasjonssikkerhet og personvern" ("Management system for information security and privacy"), ICT regulations and other relevant rules. (https://regler.app.uib.no/regler/Del-4-OEkonomi-eiendom-og-IKT/4.3-Informasjons-og-kommunikasjonsteknologi/).

If you do not want the IT division to manage your computer, you will not receive user support or help setting up the machine. You yourself will then be responsible for ensuring that the machine satisfies the relevant regulations.

If you have a Mac (owned by UiB) you want to be managed by UiB , please contact the IT division to arrange this.
