KI 2121 Use local administrator access on a UiB PC using Make Me Admin

Before you can log on with administrator access, such access must be approved for you. Please see Local administrator access to own PC (new scheme).

Only use local administrator rights for performing tasks that explicitely require them.
If you have received notification that your application has been approved, you must:
a) Restart your computer on cabeled UIB network

b) Download and install the Make Me Admin program
Download the program Make Me Admin from the Software Center as follows: (For more information please see KI 2089 How to install software from the Software Center.)
  1. Enter the Software Center
  2. Search for Make Me Admin
  3. Click the link to Make Me Admin
  4. Click Install

b) Elevate your user account to local administrator
Do as follows:
  1. Start the program Make Me Admin on your PC, and choose "Grant Me Administrator Rights". You should receive a notice like "You are now a member of the Administrators group".
  2. (Optional) log off and on to your PC.
c) Run a program with administrator rights
NB! Requires that step b) elevation has been carried out first.

Browse to the relevant file, typically an exe-file in Window Explorer, right-click the file and choose "Run as administrator" from the menu. You will either be prompted to Yes/No or asked for your password to acknowledge that you actually want to run the program as administrator.

Note:
  • Log in when you need local administrator access.
  • Do what you need to do.
  • Access expires after 60 minutes.
  • Login as a local administrator can be done at any time of the day, every day, an unlimited number of times.
