KI 2125 Why must I apply to get/keep administrator access to my own PC?
Local administrator accounts are well-known "points of attack" for unauthorized persons who want to gain access to or sabotage an organization's IT systems. Some sources estimate that as much as 90% of vulnerabilities in Windows systems are due to local administrator privileges (https://www.securden.com/blog/local-admin-accounts-management.html).
At UiB, we therefore have to get an overview of and limit the number of local administrator accounts.
We believe that the scheme we are introducing safeguards security, while at the same time accommodating the needs for users who really need local administrator access.
Please see the web page https://www.uib.no/en/personaldata for more information about the IT security work at UiB.
