KI 2572 Linking and uploading files

Part of the user guide for the reading list system Leganto
Uploading material (document files) in Leganto/Mitt UiB should only be done in exceptional cases. Such exceptions could be unpublished material that you are the author of, or texts where you have obtained the rights from the copyright holder.

For other types of material this is the case:
  • Literature owned or subscribed to by the university library should be added via search, so that correct links are available for the students. (Many publishers don't allow uploading the material, and in addition, the library needs correct usage statistics for our e-resources.
  • Material that is not digitally available via the university library can be digitized and made available for the students to buy in Litteraturkiosken (KI 2550). You are NOT permitted to make copyrighted material available for the students as a file in Leganto/Mitt UiB. This violates copyright, and is not in line with UiB's decision that students should pay for this kind of material in Litteraturkiosken.
  • Material that is Open Access or public information (e.g. laws or public reports) will generally be available from the publisher's web page, and should be linked to.
NB! Linking to published material, that has been made available online, is often problematic. We frequently discover material made accessible in conflict with copyrights, e.g. in academic networks such as ResearchGate and Academia (authors often sign away their rights in connection with publication). To avoid the risk of UiB contributing to illegal sharing of research material, we advise against linking to such research networks and the like in the reading lists. Read more about the UiB guidelines.

Please contact the Leganto team if you are in doubt whether something can be uploaded or linked to.
