UiBhelp's public knowledge cards

KI 2789

(updated )
New Macs purchased via UiB's purchasing agreement must be prepared for client setup "out of the box" User must set up a local account and enroll the Mac in UiB's management solution (Intune) then the Mac is ready for use.

The user will be presented with a screen that says "This Mac is owned by UiB.

The user must then log in with their UiB email address and password (and possibly two-factor authentication)
Go through the steps presented, select your region (usually Norway) and optionally add more keyboard layouts. If you choose a language other than Norwegian, you may want to make sure that the keyboard layout is still in Norwegian if the Mac keyboard is in Norwegian.

Set up accessibility options if desired (most people can just click past this screen) Connect to Eduroam with your uib user. Both email addresses in the form firstname.surname@uib.no and username@uib.no should work for employees (students should use the form username@uib.no)

Select continue when asked to accept the certificate. Connecting to UiB guest or other wireless networks should also work here. The user is then presented with a screen with Remote management, Press enroll and log in with your email address

Set up a local account to log in to the Mac with a secure password KI 2243

This should not be the same as your UiB password as there is no synchronization between these and it can lead to confusion if you think they are the same.

Select the time zone, here you can click on Bergen on the map (or desired location if you are somewhere else)

If more options appear, click though them and set it up.

If you skip options, it is possible to change or set them up afterwards via System settings After a short time, you will be presented with the Mac desktop.

Some configuration runs in the background and needs a few extra minutes before these come in. This applies to printing and the Managed Software Center where you can install additional software on the Mac such as Office, e-mail and a number of other programs (KI 2852)
