KI 2997 Eduroam to be moved outside UiB’s internal network
What’s changing?
Eduroam will be moved “outside” UiB’s internal network. This means that users with non-managed devices will need to use VPN to access certain internal services—similar to how you connect when working from home.
What does this mean for you?
If you’re using equipment set up by the IT department—such as managed client devices—these will typically connect automatically to the correct network (uib-klient). These devices will not be affected by the change.
If you connect to the internet via eduroam, you will no longer have direct access to certain UiB services. You must first connect to VPN.
Examples of services that will require VPN access:
- skrivebord.uib.no
- Shared and project folders on network drives (does not apply to Teams)
- Storage drive W:\
- portal.uib.no
What should you do?
- Make sure VPN is installed and working on your device.
- If you don’t have a working VPN setup, check here: https://hjelpekort.app.uib.no/KI-0706.html
- If your device is owned by UiB but not managed, contact BRITA to have it set up as a managed client.
- Test your VPN connection before October 1 to ensure you're ready.
