One of the best video editors under Linux is Kdenlive. Almost needless to say: Both are free.
Audacity
To install:sudo apt install audacity
Kdenlive
To install:sudo apt install kdenlive
The platform is extremely powerful, but challenging to use.
This is the general workflow:
Open a project, import the source movies.
Run the source movie. Space = play
Then use the "Set Zone in" and "Set Zone out" tools to extract the parts of the movie you want to retain. Ctrl + space = play the zone
Then save the zone to a file of its own by R-clicking on the zone and choosing "Extract zone"
Then drag the files to the track in the bottom of the screen.
Finally, when the project is complete, choose menu project/Render
