KI 0306 Connecting to a SAFE server - Windows 10

Start by clicking the Windows icon in the bottom, left corner and start typing "Cisco..."



Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client will show up and you click the icon to start the program.

You get the following dialog box:



Choose the "UiB SAFE" profile from the drop-down list.  When you click Connect, you are first asked for username/password. Use the same credentials as you use when connecting to other UiB resources. Use only "username", not "uib\username" or "username@uib.no".



Currently, SAFE support two different methods for MFA, Microsoft Authenticator or SecurEnvoy

If you have enabled MFA with your UiB account, Microsoft Authenticator is the preferred (only) method.

You will receive a sign in verification request on your smartphone and asked to approve sign-in.





Once you press Approve, assume the smartphone will use biometrics (like face recognition) to verify your identity. If successful, you will be granted access to SAFE.

If you have not MFA enabled your UiB account, you can use SecurEnvoy. In order to do so, you need to type the following into the address field: https://elv.uib.no/
Next, you will be asked wich profile to use. The correct choice is "UiB SAFE (SecurEnvoy)". Enter password.

Assuming you have entered your correct credentials and you have access to a secure desktop you will be asked to enter a one-time code.



You should receive a 6-digit code on your mobile phone, either as a text message and in the SecurEnvoy app. When you enter this code, you are connected to SAFE. The Cisco AnyConnect dialog box disappears, but you should see an icon in the bottom right in the taskbar.


Now you are connected to SAFE.

Next step is to connect to the secure desktop.
Start by clicking the Windows icon and start typing "Remote..." (If the program does not appear, try to type "mst..." which is the start of the name of the actual program you are trying to fnd)



Remote Desktop Connection will show up in the list of software. Click on "Remote Desktop Connection":



Click Show options 




In the Computer field, type the name of your secure desktop. This should be something like: "newyork.uib.no".
In the User name field, type either username@uib.no or uib\username

When you click Connect, you will be asked for the password. This is your standard UiB password.

You should now be connected to your secure desktop.
