KI 0478 Secure Video

Secure Video is a web service used to record videos containing person data. Video is transferred for the browser to a webRTC server and then to a secure desktop in SAFE.
Recording
Note: Some of the english words used for explaining the process might deviate from the actual words in the service, since this document has been translated from the norwegian version of the document.
Setup
  • Connect the webcam and desktop microphone to separate USB ports on your PC.
The desktop microphone is used automatically instead of the webcam’s built-in microphone.
  • Open the Firefox or Google Chrome web browser.
  • Go to the secure video link you received via email.
  • Log in using Feide (your standard username and password).
  • Ensure that it says “Status: ok” after logging in.

Test recording
  • Click the “Record” button and select “Yes” when asked if it is a test.
  • Grant the browser permission to use the webcam and desktop microphone.
  • Click the “Stop” button.
  • Select the recording from the list and click the “Play” button to review the test recording.
Test recordings are automatically deleted after 1 hour and will not be transferred to SAFE.
Actual recording
  • Click the “Record” button and select “No” when asked if it is a test.
  • Enter a title for the recording (this will become part of the filename once it reaches SAFE).
  • If prompted, grant the browser permission to use the webcam and desktop microphone again.
  • Click the “Stop” button when the recording is finished (there is no pause function).
The recording will be transferred to SAFE within 1 hour, and you will receive an email confirmation indicating whether the process was successful. The recording can only be played back from within SAFE. No one other than you should have access to the recording.
Potential issues
  • It does not say “Status: ok,” but displays something else.
Ensure that you have used the link provided to you via email
  • I have not received an email containing a link.

  • Unable to record using the webcam – receiving an error message.
Check that no other program is currently using the webcam.Check the version of your web browser – Firefox version 52 or higher, or Google Chrome version 35 or higher.

Playback

Playing back a secure video requires a connection to a SAFE server. Once you have created a video (other than a test video), it will shortly become available via the secure desktop. The wait time depends on the length of the recording. You can use the information provided here on UiBhjelp, under Knowledge Base > IT > SAFE, to install and connect to the secure desktop.

Video Acceleration: The SAFE servers used for playback are equipped with vGPU resources, which significantly improve playback quality.
