KI 2736 Whisper AI

Standalone Faster-Whisper automatically transcribes English and Norwegian recordings. The transcription is performed on a server in SAFE with GPU support.

To access Whisper, a ticket must first be created at hjelp.uib.no with the following information:

• Name of the SAFE server
• Name of the user(s) who will transcribe
• Any additional languages besides Norwegian/English to be transcribed

Once access is granted, a new folder will be created in the home directory in SAFE.


Files to be transcribed should be placed in the subfolder NO for Norwegian or EN for English.

The transcription starts automatically, and the completed file will be available in the Done folder. The file will retain its original name, followed by _Done.

The output files are available in the following formats: JSON, LRC, SRT, TEXT, TSV, TXT, and VTT.

To allow multiple users in the project to access the files, they must be copied to the shared area: \\common\project\xxxx.
