KI 0491 Log on to your PC with VPN (Network Sign-In)

Network Sign-In with VPN can be used to log on to a UiB laptop for the first time (outside UiB). Other uses are to make sure the machine has a UiB connection immediately when logging on to the PC. This way, you make sure that your home and common folders are connected properly. If you have changed your password, this way of logging in will also update your password on the PC.
NOTE: Cisco AnyConnect must be installed on the PC. All updated UiB PCs have this installed via updates. (See KI 0560 for procedure if you are missing the program.)
  1. Make sure the PC is connected to the Internet. You can either use your home wireless network or a wired network if one is available.

  2. Click the Network Sign-In icon. You may need to select Other User, in the lower right corner, for this icon.
If it is still missing, try restarting your PC before continuing.

  3. If you have more than one VPN connection, you will have to select the Cisco AnyConnect icon.

  4. When Cisco AnyConnect has started, you have to enter the profile name https://vpn3.uib.no/prelogin before connecting:

  5. Log in to VPN with your username and password. You will have to use multi-factor authentication if this is active for your account. Note: Do not use @uib.no after your user name!

  6. Log in to the PC. Type the user name as username@uib.no (eg abc123@uib.no). When you have entered your password, you may press Enter or click the arrow next to the password field.

  7. Login is now in progress.

Logging in for the first time may take some time, depending on your internet connection. To verify that everything is OK, please leave the computer to work for a few minutes.

If you have trouble accessing files in the Documents or O: area, it may be helpful to repeat this entire process one more time.
