As previously announced, UiB will be firewalling our server networks starting Wednesday October 20th. The actual change will happen at noon (12:00).

As previously announced, UiB will be firewalling our server networks starting Wednesday October 20th. The actual change will happen at noon (12:00).

The intention is to block all unwanted network traffic, but only unwanted network traffic. This will have several consequences:

To read email from imap.uib.no and send via smtp.uib.no (unix email, using Thunderbird), you will need to use VPN.
Several web services (webmail, wiki, etc) will require the use of VPN, in particular several requiring username+password to login and which do not support multi-factor authentication.

Should you find that you need VPN to access a service you think should be open, please report the discrepancy at https://hjelp.uib.no.

The change will not affect the use of computers on campus, though there is a minor risk that some systems will lose some interoperability. If you see malfunctioning systems, please report these at https://hjelp.uib.no.
