KI 1333 UiB introduces multi-factor authentication for students

The security situation has changed a lot recently, and UiB has therefore decided to introduce multi-factor authentication for all students.
Multi-factor authentication means that you do not log in only with your username and password, but also use another factor such as an authentication app on your mobile phone, code sent via SMS or dial-up. This has already been introduced for employees at UiB.

Schedule:
  • November 15 at 12 noon: We turn on multi-factor authentication for all students with a deadline of 14 days. Students are notified of the requirement when they log in, but have 14 days to actually start using it.
  • December 1: From 12 noon, multi-factor authentication will be required for all students on most IT services at UiB. Those who have not set up multi-factor authentication by then, must do this before they can log on.
Note! Exams will not be affected by the change - the requirement for multi-factor authentication will not be enforced during exams for the students in question, this goes also for home exams and other forms of assessment that require login.
