KI 1263 Why should I use Outlook/Exchange for e-mail?
UiB has decided to use Outlook/Exchange at its standard e-mail service. There are good reasons for that choice:
Secure: E-mail is one of the services covered by the multi-factor authentication to your UiB account on Microsoft 365. This provides high security while you do not have to log in with your username, password and multi-factor authentication every time. The service "sees" whether you log in from your regular PC or mobile and your regular network location or if you e.g. try to log in from abroad, and sets the security measures in accordance with UiB's policy. Outlook/Exchange also has built-in features for encrypting e-mails with sensitive content.
Simple: Outlook/Exchange online e-mail provides a lot of functionality to you as a user, both in the e-mail program itself and in interaction with other programs and services. You will get integration between e-mail, calendar and contact list (both your own contacts and all UiB users). And you get easy file sharing through e.g. OneDrive and Teams. Setting up access to e-mail on your mobile or tablet is easy.
Available: With your e-mail on Outlook/Exchange Online, you can access it from anywhere; on your PC, Mac, smartphone or in any web browser. The functionality is the same and the security is just as good no matter how you choose to read your e-mail. Outlook/Exchange also works well if you use a Mac, iPhone and iPad.
