KI 1439 Software: NVivo

NVivo is a program for qualitative analysis, which can be used on unstructured data of different types and in different formats.

UiB has a license allowing students and employees to use NVivo for UiB-related work (not for commercial use).

How to get NVivo on UiB PC or Mac

You can install NVivo from:

for Windows PC: Software Center (See KI 2089 How to install software from Software Center)
for Linux PC: Ubuntu Software Center.
for Mac: Managed Software Center.

SPSS for students' PCs/Macs

SPSS is available to students through the Tredjepartsportalen (apps.uib.no). Please see KI 0322 Get started with the Tredjepartsportalen (apps.uib.no) for more information.

For employees' private PCs/Macs

Installation program can be downloaded from the file store of the Programvare på UiB team.

The UiB NVivo license key is available in a separate file in the file repository. The license key must be renewed once a year.

Run the installer file you have downloaded and complete the installation process.
When the installation is complete, you will be asked to activate the program. Then click or provide enterprise key to activate:
Enter the license key (which you obtained from the file in the file store). Tick to accept the license terms and click Next:
In the next step, you will be asked to register your personal data. Fill in the mandatory fields. Then click Activate:

Wait for the activation. You should eventually receive a message that the license has been activated:
Finally, you need to fill in your "username" for projects in NVivo. Then you should be ready to start using the program.

Note that NVivo from version 13 on has a cloud service NVivo Collaboration Cloud for saving and sharing projects on-line. This is currently not approved for storing UiB data. It is therefore not permitted to store data belonging to UiB in the NVivo Collaboration Cloud. Consequently it is also not possible to log into this service with a UiB account.
