KI 2162 Microsoft 365 licenses

This article explains who gets what license, criteria and how to request an upgrade.
Students have access to Microsoft 365 A5 For Student Use. Employees can get either Microsoft 365 A1 or Microsoft 365 A5. A5 is the most expensive and comprehensive license, and the criteria for obtaining it can be found below.

The difference between an A1 and A5 license

With an A5 license, you have access to download the Office suite and use it as a client. This includes programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. With an A1 license, you can use the same programs through a web browser. This is the biggest difference between the two licenses. The A5 license also includes PowerBI.

Criteria for obtaining the "employee license" Microsoft 365 A5 for Faculty
  • Fixed monthly salary.
  • Employment fraction of at least 30%.
Students are automatically assigned Microsoft A5 For Student Use.

Microsoft 365 A1 for Faculty is assigned to those who do not meet the criteria for A5, and guests.

If you need the A5 license, you can order it through UiBTilgang. Approval from your immediate manager is required, and the department will be invoiced afterward.

Emeriti can apply to upgrade their license through UiBtilgang and will have the upgrade automatically approved there.

Requesting upgrade

When requesting the A5 license through UiBTilgang, and upon approval, it may take some time for the change to take effect. Please try again after a few hours. If the change does not take effect, contact user support.

When your account is deactivated
When an account which is assigned this license as a requestable is deactivated, the license is removed from the account. You will receive an e-mail in this case: "Revoked: Microsoft 365 Faculty A5 license requestable". If your account is reactivated/re-opened you need to re-apply for this license if needed.
